Il Gentiluomo

Il Gentiluomo

History and facts

According to Cascina Albano there are no boundaries for the charm of expression and that is why “Il Gentiluomo” was born; it is a white wine obtained from a cuvee of overripe grapes. “Il Gentiluomo” narrates the Piedmont with its innovative, sensual and fascinating spirit. This wine has not only to be tasted, but it has to be felt. During the intense withering in the vineyard, the wind and the sun enrich Gentiluomo with lots of stories. If you are able to listen to it, it will tell them to you and you will fall in love with it.

The Label

The orange recalls the colour of the sun and the heat, which slowly withers the selected grapes. The elegant and modern chandelier expresses the withering, controlled even after the picking of the grapes; this is the difference between our method and the one in the hot climate of the South where the grapes wither on the plants. “Il Gentiluomo” conveys pleasure and it is narrated by the underwear hanged at the chandelier and by the poem, which allows the imagination to wonder freely about a very sweet and sensual post-dinner scenario.

Around August, the vineyard devoted to the Gentiluomo production is intensely defoliated and thinned. The withering occurs in the vineyard until the first rains in the autumn, then the selected grapes are carefully placed in small perforated cases, which are placed in dedicated rooms which are climatecontrolled and ventilated. The withered grapes are directly put to a soft pressing, separating the free-running must from the peels. The obtained must, after a static setting, is slowly fermented during the winter. There is an aging process on the thin dregs for some months in order to enhance the structure and the aromatic complexity. After the cold stabilization, the wine is bottled during the Spring following the harvest.

Tasting notes

The colour is gold yellow, while the nose recalls acacia honey, ripe fruit and thorn tree. On the palate, it is pleasantly well-rounded, sweet with agreeable hints of nougat and apricot. A slight alcoholic note underlines the Langhe origin and balances the sweetness. The smooth acidity gives the wine freshness and pleasure.

Serving suggestions

Serve between 10-12° C in tulip-shaped glasses. It is interesting to serve it as an aperitif with strong, soft cheeses and with foie gras. Ideal with petite patisserie, dried and candied fruit, crèmes and nougat. It is an excellent meditation wine.
